JUL 26: Profecy PRO Series.

By Hali Estrada

One of my first boards was a used Rob Roskopp and I remember very clearly how amazing the graphic was to me, I will always remember  how I use to grab a permanent marker to try to fix the beat up graphic when it got a new scratch. Nowadays there’s only few companies run entirely by Skateboarders and they are the only ones making relevant graphics, I love when I see a board or a series of boards that take me back to the time when I used my permanent marker and graphics meant something more; I was thinking about all this when I started doodling ideas for the new pro series and after many cups of coffee this is the result :). The new PRO BOARDS of Giancarlo Zavalaga, Jesus Olcese and Sebastian Arrieta are available in all sizes: 7.5, 7.75, 8 and 8.25. The PROFECY pro series are 100% made in USA by Skateboarders so you know you are getting quality here, only few will be made so get yours while you can ;).

JUL 24: 7D test drive

We got up early on Saturday to get Gunthers new 7D and take it for a test. The Costa Mesa park is literally right around the corner so we decided to go there and after a cup of coffee with Zavalaga we were on our way. The sun was out and it was the perfect day for Skateboarding; Luie got there with Marissa and after a little warm up he was killing the park, the kid is just amazing :). Here is a little clip I put together from the session (Watch it in 720 HD) and make sure to check the page tomorrow because the NEW PRO BOARDS will be available :).

JUL 03: BATB4

By Gunther Estrada.

After a long day of work at the DC HQ I got in Tom Contrera’s beat up BMW  and drove up to LA for the BATB4 Finals. Riding along with Kevin B. and Tom T. (part of DC Lurker’s crew) is more than hilarious; It will never stop to amaze me the amount of senseless, useless crap we are able to produce in a matter of 30 minutes, Its awesome!. Finally we got there to realize that we were to early so we crossed the bridge to Salman Agah’s new pizza joint ” TODDY G’s ” (if you are around LA be sure to get a slice of the carnivore pizza), we got a munch and a soda and then off to the bar next door for a drink to kill some time and to tame the heat; After a couple of drinks we headed back to the Berrics to check the situation, we found Berra at the back door and he told us to cruise to the front door for instant access (it pays to look famous), I have not seen the park since they remodeled it and I have to say it looks like a lot of fun. After lurking around the spots we grabbed a couple of free beers and a burger ( In “n” Out ) and waited for the finals. I am not going to tell you about the amazing tricks or the heat that was almost unbearable inside the park cause you can see all that at the Berrics website but I do have to mention that Morgan won “clean” not only because he is a talented skate wizard but also a very humble person and I appreciate that more than anything nowadays since the “Industry” has been plagued with so many wanna be rock stars and douche bags in general. A little amount of real humanity tastes really good, like a refreshing cup of Inka Cola at the beach (In Peru).

Big props to Morgan!

Here are some pics :).

MAY 11: Blade-runner meets Skateboarding in Downtown L.A.

By Sebastian Arrieta.

My buddies from the Art Center dropped by one night with one of the light boards. At first I thought it was a regular board until my buddy turned it on almost blinding me with how bright it was. I immediately wanted to take it out for a spin and trip out on it. Later on when my buddy Ricardo Uhagon Vivas (who is the Director) told me that he actually wanted to make a music video for a contest entry with the same kind of feeling I had the first time I saw one of these boards, I was definitely down. They also wanted to shoot part of the Skating up on my roof and given that there’s a concrete helipad up there, made me wanted to do this even more. The Video took only a couple nights of filming and a couple more nights of editing but everyone who was involved in the little project did an awesome job, especially those behind the cameras. It was fun because it hints the possibilities of what someone can do with film and Skateboarding without making a conventional Skate video. Combining narrative and story telling with Skateboarding and at the same time showcasing other artistic talents in editing and animation were the right ingredients for the video, and trying to make it seem futuristic must have made it even harder to pull off.  The contest “Hello Future” is part of the 21st Saatchi & Saatchi new directors showcase at the Cannes Lions international festival of creativity. Contestants need to visualize the concept of “Hello Future” in the form of a standout music video inspired by one of three tracks selected from Moby’s new album, “Destroyed”; The winner will be announced at this year’s Saatchi & Saatchi new directors showcase in Cannes on June 23rd.  Hopefully my buddies video wins, anyone can just go on VIMEO and check out the other entries submitted to get a taste of what other people are doing.. personally I think this is the best video so far… hope you like it !!!

MAR 19: Marc McKee book release.

By Hali Estrada.

Skateboarding is freedom from anywhere you see it and the Art Marc McKee created in the 90’s during the World Industries revolution is prove that creativity and freedom go hand in hand.  Marc just released a book and we were lucky enough to be at the opening ceremony last night at the HVW8 Art and Design Gallery in Los Angeles. Driving down Melrose and looking for parking was a pain but when we finally found a spot and walked inside the gallery we felt like kids walking into a candy store. The walls were cover with some of the best boards ever created along with original pencil art and oil paintings Marc did during the early 90’s, including the board that changed  the shape and concave of all boards forever, the Vallely “Barnyard” Board and many of his controversial yet funny boards like the “Fucked up Blind Kids Series”.

I could write about those graphics for hours, for us they represent Skateboarding itself because those edgy drawings were the definition of  individuality and they inspired us to do what we love in life.

The book is edited by Marc McKee and Winston Tseng (art director for Enjoi Skateboards) and is part of the Seen Unknown Artist series and I highly recommend you to go get it as soon as you can and If you are in LA go by the gallery and see by yourself the work of one of the best Artists in Skateboarding history, the exhibit will run until April 10th and if you are lucky you might get the chance to buy one of the limited prints and support  the real deal.

"Let me write the songs of a nation; I don't care who writes it's laws"- Plato.

Limited prints were available including Mariano's Accidental Gun Death.
